Mid Century Coffee Table with Vinyl Storage by Myer

Construction is teak throughout. Solid teak legs with square profiles, joined to the frame with what appears to be dowel or bolt fixings. The lower shelf is teak-veneered board set into the frame, providing additional storage for magazines, sleeves, or overflow records. The maker’s badge on the lower shelf edge confirms this is Myer – a British manufacturer that produced quality mid-century furniture for the domestic market.

The wire dividers are stable and show the expected surface patina of vintage powder-coated metal. The lower shelf is secure. Structurally, this is sound – a well-made piece that’s held up remarkably well over 50+ years of use.

The dimensions work perfectly as a standard coffee table height, and the vinyl storage is a genuine asset if you have a record collection and limited floor space. Having your frequently-played LPs accessible inside the coffee table makes practical sense, and the open-top design means you can grab records without moving anything off the table surface.

This design reflects the 1960s-70s trend for furniture that served multiple functions in smaller post-war homes. Hi-fi equipment was expensive and records were genuinely valuable – purpose-designed storage furniture like this kept them protected while integrating them into the living room layout. The fact that it still works brilliantly in contemporary interiors proves the design was sound from the start.
