Finished in warm teak with attractive grain throughout, the restrained lines and practical proportions are typical of Nils Jonsson’s work for Troeds and Scandinavian furniture of the period. The open shelving also makes it a versatile piece - equally at home used as a bookcase, display cabinet or even styled as a compact drinks cabinet.
A lovely example of Swedish mid century design, combining excellent craftsmanship with genuinely useful storage.
A beautifully proportioned Domi Monte bookcase designed by Nils Jonsson for Swedish manufacturer Troeds, dating from the mid century period.
Tall and relatively narrow, it’s a particularly useful piece for adding plenty of storage without taking up too much floor space. The upper bookcase section has a series of open shelves, with adjustable positioning allowing the layout to be altered to suit books, ceramics or favourite objects.
Below are four generously sized drawers, each finished with simple sculpted teak handles. The drawers are beautifully made with traditional dovetail joints, while the cabinet stands on a neat solid timber underframe that keeps the overall design feeling light and unfussy.

Troeds is a Swedish furniture manufacturer based in Bjärnum, a town that became an important centre for furniture production during the mid 20th century. Established by Hugo Troedsson and developed alongside his wife Svea, Troeds became particularly well known during the 1950s and 1960s, producing beautifully made Scandinavian modern furniture.
The company worked with notable Swedish designers including Nils Jonsson and Yngve Ekström, creating furniture characterised by clean lines, thoughtful proportions and practical storage. Teak was frequently used, with sideboards, cabinets, shelving systems and tables reflecting the understated styling associated with Scandinavian modern design.
Nils Jonsson's designs for Troeds are particularly sought after today. His work includes the modular Domi Monté range, designed during the 1960s and combining flexible shelving and storage with the simple, refined appearance typical of Swedish furniture from the period.

Nils Jonsson was a Swedish furniture designer and architect whose work is closely associated with the Scandinavian modern movement of the 1950s and 1960s.
Jonsson is best known for his furniture produced by Swedish manufacturer Troeds of Bjärnum, where he worked alongside designer Yngve Ekström. His designs included sideboards, cabinets, tables, desks and modular storage furniture, often combining warm teak with clean lines and carefully considered proportions.
Rather than relying on decorative detail, Jonsson’s furniture tends to let the timber, construction and functionality do the work. Pieces such as the Domi Monté storage system are a good example of this approach, offering adaptable storage while retaining the simple, uncluttered appearance that makes Swedish mid century furniture so easy to live with today. The Domi Monté range is documented as a Jonsson design for Troeds from the 1960s.
