Vintage Coolicon Industrial Lighting

Coolicon is one of the most recognisable names in British industrial lighting, best known for its distinctive enamel factory shades first produced in 1933.

Originally developed as practical task lighting for factories and workshops, the classic Coolicon design combines a broad enamel reflector with a vented upper gallery. The openings were designed to allow heat to escape from around the bulb while the pale enamel interior reflected a strong pool of light onto the work surface below.

Made from steel with a durable vitreous enamel finish, original Coolicon lights were built for hard-working industrial environments. Green enamel with a white interior became one of the most recognisable combinations, and surviving vintage examples often retain chips, wear and patina from decades of use.

Today, original Coolicon lighting is sought after for its combination of functional British design, industrial heritage and unmistakable silhouette, working just as well above a kitchen island or dining table as it once did above a factory workbench.
