Interstore was a Danish modular furniture system from the 1960s and 1970s – the kind of adaptable storage that made sense when people wanted furniture they could reconfigure as their needs changed. These weren’t fixed units; they were components that could be combined, stacked, and rearranged.
Each Interstore piece here has been professionally restored in our Devon workshop. That means hand sanding teak and rosewood components to remove decades of wear, Danish oil finishing to bring the wood back to life, and checking all the original fittings and connectors. The clever modular system means these pieces can still be configured different ways – exactly as they were designed to work. What makes Interstore distinctive:
The Danish approach to modular storage – well-engineered components that fit together properly rather than the wobbly systems you often see. Quality timber (typically teak or rosewood) rather than veneered chipboard. Adjustable shelving that actually stays where you put it. Design that works as room dividers, wall units, or freestanding storage depending on how you configure it.
You’ll find lamps, shelving units, cabinet sections, display compartments, and drawer units here – all designed to work together. Some pieces are complete systems as they were originally set up, others are individual components that can work standalone or be added to existing Interstore setups.
We’re transparent about what’s original and what’s been replaced. If fittings are reproductions, if a component has been refinished, if there’s damage or repair – you’ll know. Some pieces retain their original Interstore stamps or labels, which helps with authentication, though many don’t after 50+ years.
These come from house clearances and sales across Southwest England. They’ve divided living spaces, held books and records, and adapted as people’s needs changed – exactly what modular furniture was meant to do. Properly set up, they’ll do the same for decades more.
