Pifco

Pifco, short for the Provincial Incandescent Fittings Company, is a British brand known for producing small electrical appliances and home goods. Founded in 1900 in Manchester, the company initially specialised in lighting products, particularly light fittings and incandescent lamps, before expanding into a wide variety of household appliances, including heaters, hairdryers, vacuum cleaners, torches, and other electrical devices.

By the mid-20th century, Pifco had become a household name in the UK. Its products were valued for their durability, practicality, and affordability, making them staples in many British homes. While lighting remained an important part of their range, the company also gained recognition for electric razors, kitchen gadgets, personal grooming devices, and especially their portable heaters and hairdryers.

Many Pifco products from the mid-century era reflected the design trends of the time, with clean lines, colourful plastics, and a strong focus on functionality. These qualities give vintage Pifco items a distinctive charm that continues to appeal to collectors today.

Like many traditional British manufacturers, Pifco faced challenges in the late 20th century as global competition grew. The brand was eventually acquired by Salton Europe, which continued to produce items under the Pifco name for a time.
