Poul Cadovius Danish Furniture

Poul Cadovius (1911-2011) was a Danish designer and manufacturer who revolutionised interior storage with his wall-mounted modular shelving systems. In 1948, he designed the Royal System, one of the world’s first wall-mounted furniture systems, followed by System Ultra in 1957 and System Cado in 1960. His innovative concept moved furniture off the floor onto walls using metal rails and adjustable brackets, creating adaptable storage solutions that could be configured to suit any space. In the mid-1960s, Cadovius purchased France & Søn and renamed it Cado, producing his shelving systems alongside furniture by other prominent Danish designers. An exceptional entrepreneur, he registered over 400 patents throughout his career and continued designing into his nineties. The Royal System remains in production today, relaunched by dk3 in 2010.
