Vintage Bar Stool

Proper vintage bar stools from the 1950s through to the 1980s – the kind built to actually last rather than fall apart after a couple of years. We source and restore mid-century bar stools from makers like Ercol, G-Plan, and Danish manufacturers who understood that good design means solid joinery and quality materials.

Each stool has been professionally restored here in Devon using traditional techniques. That means hand sanding to remove decades of wear, Danish oil finishing on teak and beech frames, and replacing upholstery only when the original is beyond saving. We keep original vinyl and leather wherever possible – those vintage textures and patinas tell the story of the piece.

You’ll find both counter height (around 65cm seat height) and bar height (around 75cm) stools here, in woods from warm teak to lighter beech and oak. Swivel bases, fixed frames, footrests in brass or wood – the variety reflects what people actually wanted in their homes and local pubs back then.

We’re transparent about condition and any repairs. If a rung has been replaced or upholstery is new, we’ll tell you. Authentication matters too – we know the difference between a genuine Ercol Windsor bar stool and a later copy, between Danish workshop pieces and mass-produced alternatives.

These aren’t reproduction bar stools trying to look vintage. They’re the real thing, sourced from house clearances and auctions across Southwest England, brought back to working condition without losing their original character.
