A Danish teak bureau from the 1960s that packs a writing desk, four drawers and a concealed dressing table into one piece of furniture.
The four full width drawers have recessed handles and dovetail joints, with plenty of room for clothes, paperwork or anything else you’d rather keep out of sight. Pull out the section above them and there’s a generous surface for writing or working. Lift its hinged panel to reveal a fitted mirror and divided compartments underneath, turning the desk into a dressing table when you need one.
The upper section has a long open shelf, while sliding teak doors can be moved across the smaller compartments. There’s space here for books, stationery and a few favourite objects. Tapered legs keep the bureau raised off the floor, and the grain runs beautifully across the drawer fronts and sides.
This bureau was produced for Illums Bolighus, the Copenhagen store known for bringing together Danish furniture and interior design. Its practical layout and carefully finished details make it a lovely example of Danish mid century design. Another surviving example of the same design has also been documented as produced for the store during the 1960s.
Carefully restored in our workshop, the bureau is in lovely vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use. It offers a proper place to work, dress and store things without needing three separate pieces of furniture.
