A mid century teak bookcase and display cabinet by Herbert Gibbs, with warm grain, clean lines and glass sliding doors that keep the contents visible while protecting them from dust.
Inside, two shelves provide space for books, ceramics, glassware or a collection of favourite objects. Their positions can be adjusted to suit what you want to display, while the full-width top offers another useful surface. The cabinet has a pleasingly simple shape, with neatly finished sides and a low plinth that gives it a grounded look without feeling bulky.
Herbert Gibbs was a British furniture maker whose practical, pared-back designs sit comfortably alongside other mid century pieces. This cabinet retains its original Gibbs Furniture label on the back, confirming its maker.
It has been carefully restored in our workshop and is in fantastic vintage condition. The teak has a lovely warmth across the top and sides, with only minor signs of age and use.
A versatile piece for a living room, dining room or home office: useful as a bookcase, but just as good for displaying pieces you would rather see than tuck away.

Herbert Gibbs was a British furniture manufacturer best known for its well-made, practical furniture produced during the mid 20th century, particularly throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
The company became especially associated with slimline glazed bookcases, display cabinets, bureaus and storage furniture, often made in richly coloured teak and designed with the clean, unfussy lines that defined post-war British modernism. Many pieces combine open or glazed display space with cupboards below, making them particularly versatile for modern interiors.
Herbert Gibbs furniture tends to have a restrained, functional quality rather than being overly decorative, with an emphasis on good proportions, attractive timber and useful storage. These qualities have helped its pieces remain both practical and increasingly desirable examples of British mid century design.
