A beautifully proportioned mid century teak sideboard dating to approximately the 1960s, with an unusually long, low profile and wonderfully understated Scandinavian-influenced styling.
The generous 198cm-wide design combines three spacious drawers to the left with three cupboard doors to the right, providing an excellent amount of practical storage without compromising its clean, streamlined appearance. The double cupboard opens to reveal a full-width internal shelf, while the adjoining single cupboard provides a useful deeper storage space.
The three drawers are beautifully constructed with traditional dovetail joints, while the upper drawer is divided into compartments and freshly lined in black, making it ideal for cutlery and smaller items.
One of the most distinctive features is the beautifully sculpted wooden handles, which run almost the full width of each drawer and continue across the cupboard doors. Their gently curved profile creates a subtle decorative detail while retaining the simplicity associated with good mid century design.
The warm teak grain is particularly attractive across the expansive top and drawer fronts, complemented by slim tapered legs and neatly braced supports which lift the substantial cabinet away from the floor and give it a lighter appearance.
With its combination of generous storage, striking proportions and beautifully considered detailing, this is a particularly handsome example of British mid century furniture and a wonderfully versatile piece for a living room, dining room or larger hallway.
