Prova Lamps & Lighting

Prova made lamps in Italy through the 1960s and 70s, and most of them found their way to Britain via BHS. That makes them a proper bit of high street history – affordable, well-made lighting that echoed the look of far pricier designers of the day, sold to ordinary households rather than collectors.

You’ll spot a Prova by its chrome stems and goosenecks, spun aluminium shades, and bold enamelled colour — mustard, olive, purple, orange. Simple, adjustable, built to be used.

They’re often misattributed to Dutch makers like Gepo or Anvia, but these were Italian through and through. Fifty years on, they’ve become genuinely collectable – a reminder that good design didn’t always come with a designer price tag.
