A wonderfully distinctive vintage Italian desk lamp by Prova, dating to approximately the 1970s and retaining its original maker’s label beneath the base.
Finished in a fabulous mustard yellow, the lamp combines bold period colour with chrome and brushed aluminium detailing for a particularly striking space-age look. The cylindrical lamp head is finished with a wide brushed aluminium shade, while the matching mustard circular base provides a simple, graphic counterpoint.
The lamp is highly adjustable, with the horizontal chrome arm sliding through a central fitting on the upright stem and secured in position using the original black adjustment knob. This allows both the height and angle of the light to be altered, while the lamp head itself can also be tilted to direct the light where required.
A black flex with inline switch completes the design, making it equally practical as a desk, bedside or reading lamp.
The original label to the underside reads Prova – Made in Italy, with a maximum 60 watt rating and Lot No. 1261.
There are some small marks, scratches and areas of paint loss consistent with its age and use, which add to the character of this original 1970s piece.
A fantastic example of Italian mid century lighting, combining strong geometric styling, great functionality and that unmistakable mustard colour palette of the period.

Prova made lamps in Italy through the 1960s and 70s, and most of them found their way to Britain via BHS. That makes them a proper bit of high street history - affordable, well-made lighting that echoed the look of far pricier designers of the day, sold to ordinary households rather than collectors.
You'll spot a Prova by its chrome stems and goosenecks, spun aluminium shades, and bold enamelled colour — mustard, olive, purple, orange. Simple, adjustable, built to be used.
They're often misattributed to Dutch makers like Gepo or Anvia, but these were Italian through and through. Fifty years on, they've become genuinely collectable - a reminder that good design didn't always come with a designer price tag.
