Remploy was a British manufacturer established in the post-war period, originally created to provide meaningful employment for disabled people and returning servicemen. Founded in 1945, the organisation went on to operate a large network of factories across the UK, producing everything from furniture and textiles to engineering products.
Furniture formed an important part of Remploy’s early manufacturing, with the company becoming particularly well known for producing practical, hard-wearing pieces for schools, offices and other public buildings. Designs from the 1950s, 60s and 70s typically combine simple modernist styling with robust construction, reflecting the functional approach that characterised much British mid century furniture.
