Austinsuite was a British furniture maker particularly well known for bedroom furniture. During the 1960s, its designs took on the cleaner lines and warm timber finishes associated with the period. This tallboy is a good example: practical storage with careful attention to the details you see and use every day. It retains Austinsuite markings.
The chest has been carefully restored in our workshop and is in lovely vintage condition. There are minor signs of age and use, along with some slight tonal variation to one side, as shown in the photographs.
A useful six-drawer chest with a compact footprint and plenty of character in the teak.
This mid century teak tallboy by Austinsuite offers plenty of drawer space without taking up much floor space. Dating from around the 1960s, it has a simple, upright shape that makes it especially useful in a bedroom where a wider chest might be difficult to fit.
Six drawers run the full width of the cabinet, each with a shaped wooden handle worked neatly into the front. The teak grain continues across the drawers, giving the piece a lovely sense of rhythm, while the raised legs keep it from feeling too solid or heavy. The top provides room for a lamp, mirror or a few everyday things.

Frank Guille was a highly influential British furniture designer and educator whose elegant, functional designs helped define mid-century modern style in post-war Britain. Born in 1927, he studied at Beckenham School of Art under Robin Day and John Cole before serving in the Royal Navy, later training under furniture design pioneers Gordon Russell and Danish master Kaare Klint.
Guille’s design philosophy centered on function, utility, and simplicity, creating furniture that was visually refined yet deeply practical. His breakthrough work included redesigning Carl Jacobs’ iconic Jason chair for Kandya, replacing solid beech legs with sleek metal ones that became a hallmark of 1950s British modernism. His modular Trimma kitchen system for Kandya revolutionised domestic storage with its flexible, space-efficient approach inspired by progressive European design.
Beyond his commercial success with manufacturers including Kandya, Austinsuite, and Heals, Guille dedicated three decades to design education, rising to Head of Furniture Design at the Royal College of Art.
