A really good looking set of six Danish teak Model 175 dining chairs designed by Arne Hovmand-Olsen for Mogens Kold.
Simple, well balanced design with gently curved backrests, tapered solid teak frames, and hand woven papercord seats. They’ve got that classic Danish look without feeling overly formal - clean lines, warm timber, and loads of texture from the woven seats.
The frames are nicely shaped throughout, particularly around the backrests and rear legs, with the darker teak contrasting beautifully against the lighter papercord. They sit comfortably around a dining table and work just as well mixed into a more modern interior.
Arne Hovmand-Olsen was one of the better known Danish designers of the mid century period, producing furniture that focused on craftsmanship, proportion, and everyday practicality. Mogens Kold pieces are particularly well regarded for the quality of their cabinetmaking and materials, and these chairs are a great example of that.
All six papercord seats are in excellent condition with no breaks or damage, and the chairs are structurally solid throughout. The teak frames have been cleaned and oiled and present really well overall with only light age related wear in places.
A lovely original set with a great warm tone and loads of character.

Mogens Kold was a Danish furniture manufacturer producing quality teak furniture during the 1960s-70s. Known for clean Scandinavian design with solid construction and attention to detail.
His sideboards and storage pieces feature teak with sliding doors, tapered legs, and quality veneers over solid frames. Often marked with paper labels or branded hardware. Good craftsmanship with dovetail drawers and traditional joinery.

Born in Kirkeby Sogn, Denmark in 1919 to a farming family, Arne Hovmand-Olsen showed an early aptitude for drawing and design. In 1938, he apprenticed as a cabinetmaker under Peder Olsen Sibast at Sibast Furniture on Funen, gaining foundational skills in furniture construction. He studied furniture design at Århus Technical School, graduating in 1941, and established his own design practice in 1944. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Hovmand-Olsen created furniture that combined traditional Danish craftsmanship with modern forms, working with manufacturers including Mogens Kold, J.L. Møller, Alf Juul Rasmussen, and Bramin.
His designs spanned seating, tables, sideboards, and secretaries, characterised by clean lines, organic curves, and tapered legs. Working primarily in teak, oak, and rosewood, Hovmand-Olsen created pieces with slender frames and sculptural forms that gained recognition first in Denmark, then internationally, particularly in the United States. Notable works include the Model 71 dining chair and Model 240 lounge chair for Mogens Kold. A pioneer in exporting Danish design to meet growing international demand, he continued working until illness forced him to close his studio in the 1970s. He died in 1989.
