The leather upholstery was specified for commercial durability - heavyweight hides stitched and panel-mounted to withstand daily office use. The fact that so many Pieff chairs survive in usable condition speaks to the quality of both materials and construction methods.

Pieff worked with designers including Tim Bates, whose Eleganza range demonstrated how cantilever chair design could be both visually striking and genuinely comfortable. The engineering is straightforward - continuous tubular steel bent into flowing cantilever forms, with upholstered seat and back panels mounted on metal frames. What made Pieff chairs better than generic office seating was attention to detail: properly padded armrests, segmented back cushioning for ergonomic support, and webbing-based seat construction that provided flex without sagging.
