A really solid and practical oak desk dating to the George VI period, with a useful drop leaf extension to the right-hand side.
Five good-sized drawers run down the left, all fitted with the original brass cup handles stamped “GR”. They’ve got a nice bit of weight to them and suit the piece well. The top drawers retain their original simple dividers, handy for smaller bits and pieces.
The drop leaf is supported by folding brackets underneath, giving you a bit of extra workspace when needed without taking up more room day to day.
Stamped “GR VI” with a crown to the underside, dating it to the reign of King George VI (1936–1952), which is always a nice detail to have.
We’ve cleaned and refinished the desk, bringing the oak back nicely while keeping its character. It presents well overall, with some marks to the top and signs of use inside the drawers including light ink staining – all in keeping with its age.
A good, honest piece that works well as a home office desk, hallway piece or even a dressing table depending on the space.
