Vintage Plan Chest / Architects Drawers

The two-section design means you can move this more easily than a single heavy unit. Stack them back together and they sit solid with no wobble. The sides are properly panelled rather than just planks, and the drawers are dovetailed at the corners – built to last, not built to a price.

There’s honest wear throughout. The wood shows scratches, small dents, and variations in colour where it’s aged differently. Some of the brass has a bit of verdigris, some is more polished from years of hands opening drawers. The drawers all run properly, no sticking or broken runners.

Originally designed for architects’ offices, but these work brilliantly in kitchens as islands – loads of shallow drawer storage for utensils, linens, baking trays, whatever needs organising. The top height is spot-on for food prep work.

Also works well as a sideboard in dining rooms, a statement piece in hallways, or in studios and workshops where you actually need flat storage for large items. The shallow drawers mean you can see everything at a glance rather than digging through deep drawers.

The black top and brass hardware give it enough presence to work in either traditional or more industrial-style spaces. It’s the kind of piece that looks like it belongs rather than like it’s trying too hard.

Well made vintage storage with genuine utility.  In excellent refinished condition with lovely wood grain throughout.  Some marks as is to be expected for a piece of this age. Please see images for details of items condition.
