A beautifully crafted Mid Century Teak Dunvegan Sideboard designed by Tom Robertson for A.H. McIntosh & Co. of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, circa 1960s. A true design classic, this sideboard showcases the craftsmanship that made McIntosh one of the most respected British furniture makers of the mid-century era.

The Dunvegan model is celebrated for its sleek, organic lines and sculpted handles, giving it a Scandinavian inspired profile. Constructed from rich teak with stunning grain patterns, the piece sits on gently tapered legs and features a balanced, symmetrical layout that makes it both practical and visually striking.

Behind the beautifully grained cupboard doors lies generous storage with internal shelving – ideal for tableware, glassware or media storage. To the left, three smoothly running drawers provide additional functionality, with the top drawer divided and newly lined for cutlery. On the right, a drop-down drinks cabinet reveals a melamine lined pull-out tray, perfect for preparing or serving drinks, along with fitted bottle storage below – a quintessential mid-century feature that makes this model especially desirable.

Perfect for use as a dining room sideboard, media cabinet or hallway storage, this piece blends effortlessly into both modern and vintage interiors. Its craftsmanship and design integrity ensure it remains a statement of quality and mid-century craftsmanship.

Founded in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, A.H. McIntosh & Co. became one of Britain’s leading furniture manufacturers during the mid-20th century. Renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and use of high-quality timbers, McIntosh pieces combined refined Scandinavian influences with distinctly British practicality. Under the direction of designer Tom Robertson, the brand produced some of the most sought-after mid-century sideboards and dining suites of the 1960s – timeless designs that continue to be celebrated for their elegance, functionality, and enduring build quality.

Excellent vintage condition. The teak has been cleaned and lightly restored, preserving its beautiful patina and depth of colour. Minor age-related marks consistent with careful use.

McIntosh

Specialising in teak and other premium woods, McIntosh embraced the Scandinavian-inspired design trends of the 1950s through the 1970s. Their pieces are instantly recognisable for their clean lines, tapered legs, minimalist proportions, and meticulous craftsmanship. Fine veneers, intricate joinery, and attention to detail ensured every piece was built to last, balancing beauty with functionality. Among their most iconic creations are the Dunvegan sideboard, admired for its curved edges and stylish proportions, and their extending dining tables paired with curved-back chairs - designs that combined elegance with everyday practicality. Today, McIntosh furniture is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its timeless aesthetic and enduring build quality. Genuine pieces often feature the company’s label or stamp, making them identifiable and desirable in the vintage market. While the brand no longer produces new furniture, its legacy lives on through its mid-century designs, which remain prized for both their historical significance and ability to complement modern interiors.
