Westclox
One of Westclox’s most iconic creations was the “Big Ben” alarm clock, introduced in 1908. It became a household staple and set the standard for the brand’s reputation for durable, accessible timekeeping. Through the mid-20th century, Westclox expanded its offerings to include wall clocks, travel clocks, pocket watches, and wristwatches, many of which reflected the design trends of the time - ranging from Art Deco to mid-century modern and utilitarian styles. Innovations such as luminous dials for night visibility and cost-effective mechanical movements helped establish Westclox as a pioneer in affordable design.
By the mid-20th century, Westclox had grown into one of the largest clockmakers in the world. Though the company underwent several changes in ownership, including acquisitions by General Time Corporation and later Salton, Inc., the brand continued to evolve. Today, Westclox clocks and watches are still produced, though with different methods and designs than their early counterparts.
Vintage Westclox pieces remain highly collectible, admired for their craftsmanship, durability, and nostalgic charm. Whether alarm clocks, travel timepieces, or wall-mounted designs, they capture the essence of everyday mid-century living and highlight the brand’s enduring contribution to accessible timekeeping.
