A striking mid century adjustable floor lamp designed by Ronald Holmes for Conelight, dating from the 1960s.
With its clean architectural lines and beautifully understated styling, this is a wonderful example of British mid century lighting design. The satin chrome finish, geometric square column and distinctive cylindrical twin spotlights give the lamp a wonderfully industrial yet refined aesthetic that feels every bit as relevant today as when it was first produced.
Both lamp heads can be independently angled to direct light exactly where it's needed, making it ideal beside a reading chair, sofa or desk. The lamp is also height adjustable, allowing it to be adapted to suit a variety of spaces and uses, while the original inline switch provides simple operation.
Ronald Holmes was one of Britain’s most accomplished lighting designers, renowned for combining innovative engineering with clean modernist design. Working closely with Conelight during the 1960s and 1970s, he produced a series of highly functional yet sculptural lighting designs that have become increasingly sought after by collectors of British mid century furniture and interiors.
Presented in good vintage condition, the lamp retains its original satin chrome finish with some signs of age and use, as expected for a piece of this era. Please see images for more details on the lamps condition. It has been fitted with a new UK three-pin plug and has been fully PAT tested, making it ready for use in the home.
A superb statement piece that offers both practical directional lighting and iconic mid century design.

Ronald Holmes was a British designer who worked with Conelight Limited, a UK lighting manufacturer producing some of the most distinctive functional lighting of the 1960s and 70s. Holmes collaborated with fellow designer Peter Nelson at Conelight, and together they developed a body of work characterised by adjustable, multi-directional fittings in aluminium and chrome – pieces that prioritised usability without sacrificing the clean, minimal aesthetic of the era.
Conelight pieces by Holmes are now sought after for exactly those qualities: well-made, adaptable, and with a quiet confidence that holds up in a contemporary interior just as well as a period one.
