A superb mid century Fresco double chest of drawers by G Plan, dating from the 1960s. Offering generous storage behind a simple, well-balanced design, it's a piece that works just as well in a bedroom as it does in a living space or hallway.
The chest features eight full-width drawers arranged in two banks of four, providing plenty of room for clothing, linens or household essentials. Each drawer is fitted with G Plan's distinctive sculpted solid teak handles, while the continuous teak grain across the drawer fronts gives the piece a clean, understated appearance. Traditional dovetail joints and smooth-running drawers reflect the quality of its construction.
This example has been professionally refinished, bringing out the warmth and character of the teak while preserving the crisp lines of the original design. The top offers a generous display surface for lamps, artwork or decorative pieces, making it every bit as practical as it is attractive.
Founded in the 1950s, G Plan became one of Britain’s best-known furniture makers, producing well-designed, practical furniture for modern homes. Introduced during the 1960s, the Fresco range remains one of the company’s most recognisable collections, with its sculpted solid teak handles and simple, functional styling continuing to appeal today.
Professionally refinished and presented in excellent vintage condition. The teak has been carefully restored, all drawers run smoothly, and the chest is clean, solid and ready to use. Minor age-related signs of use may remain, as expected with vintage furniture.
This piece has found its new home, but plenty of other one-of-a-kind finds await you. Discover similar pieces.

Victor Bramwell Wilkins was the visionary designer behind G-Plan’s most iconic furniture ranges, shaping the face of British mid-century modern design from the brand’s founding in 1953 through the 1970s. Working as G-Plan’s in-house designer, Wilkins possessed an extraordinary talent for identifying emerging international trends and translating them into designs that resonated with British homes. His debut Brandon range in 1953 introduced clean lines and light oak to post-war Britain, while the sophisticated Tola & Black range of 1957 brought Italian modernism to a mass audience.
Wilkins’ crowning achievements came in the 1960s with the Brasilia range – a brilliant fusion of Brazilian modernist curves and Scandinavian craftsmanship – and the legendary Fresco collection of 1967, which became G-Plan’s most successful range and remained in production for two decades. His designs, characterised by sculptural teak forms, integrated handles, and elegant functionality, made sophisticated modern furniture accessible to ordinary families. Today, Wilkins is celebrated as one of the hidden masters of British design, whose work defined an era and continues to be highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
