This Austinsuite dressing table dates from the 1960s and features richly coloured wood, striking grain and a large rectangular mirror. Sculpted wooden handles sit neatly along the tops of the drawer fronts, while slim, tapered legs give the piece a light, balanced appearance.
Four drawers provide useful storage, with two shallower drawers above two deeper ones, arranged either side of a central kneehole. There is plenty of room for cosmetics, jewellery and everyday essentials, with a broad top for a lamp and your favourite accessories.
The mirror can also be removed, allowing the dressing table to be used as a desk if preferred. The central space accommodates a chair, while the drawers offer handy storage for stationery and work materials, making it a versatile choice for a bedroom or home office.
Austinsuite was the furniture brand of London manufacturer F. Austin (Leyton) Ltd, particularly known for its bedroom furniture. The company embraced contemporary design during the 1960s, and this piece is a lovely example of classic British mid-century design, combining practical storage with carefully considered proportions. The Austinsuite maker’s stamp remains visible inside one of the drawers.
The dressing table has been carefully restored in our workshop, with attention to the woodwork and finish while preserving its original design and details. The rich colour and grain are a real feature, particularly across the drawer fronts and long top.
It is in good vintage condition overall, with some small marks and light wear to the handles and drawer edges consistent with its age and previous use. Please see the photographs for a closer look at the finish and condition.

Frank Guille was a highly influential British furniture designer and educator whose elegant, functional designs helped define mid-century modern style in post-war Britain. Born in 1927, he studied at Beckenham School of Art under Robin Day and John Cole before serving in the Royal Navy, later training under furniture design pioneers Gordon Russell and Danish master Kaare Klint.
Guille’s design philosophy centered on function, utility, and simplicity, creating furniture that was visually refined yet deeply practical. His breakthrough work included redesigning Carl Jacobs’ iconic Jason chair for Kandya, replacing solid beech legs with sleek metal ones that became a hallmark of 1950s British modernism. His modular Trimma kitchen system for Kandya revolutionised domestic storage with its flexible, space-efficient approach inspired by progressive European design.
Beyond his commercial success with manufacturers including Kandya, Austinsuite, and Heals, Guille dedicated three decades to design education, rising to Head of Furniture Design at the Royal College of Art.
