A striking vintage table lamp designed by Carl Öjerstam and Magnus Elebäck for IKEA, the Energi Skål lamp is a beautiful example of late-20th-century Scandinavian lighting design. With its softly rounded silhouette and clean, modern lines, this lamp brings a calm, sculptural presence to any interior.

The lamp features a large opaline acrylic dome shade in a classic mushroom / bowl form, designed to diffuse light evenly and create a warm, ambient glow. The shade sits atop a sleek chrome stem and weighted circular base, giving the lamp a refined, minimalist profile that feels both functional and decorative. A discreet pull switch hangs from the stem, keeping the overall look clean while remaining practical for everyday use.

Perfectly sized for use as a bedside lamp, sideboard light or desk lamp, the Energi Skål works effortlessly in mid-century, modern and contemporary interiors alike. Its simple geometry and high-quality materials make it a lasting design that still feels relevant today.

Carl Öjerstam and Magnus Elebäck are known for their thoughtful, modern approach to industrial and product design, creating pieces that balance form, function and accessibility. Produced by IKEA during a period when the brand collaborated closely with emerging Scandinavian designers, the Energi range reflects IKEA’s commitment to well-designed, affordable objects that have since become highly collectible.

In good vintage condition with light age-related wear consistent with use. The acrylic shade is clean with no cracks or chips, and the chrome shows minor signs of age. Fully functional and PAT tested with new UK 3-pin plug.

Ikea

During the mid-century period, IKEA produced a range of furniture that reflected the clean lines, functional forms and natural materials associated with Scandinavian Modernism. Earlier pieces were often crafted using solid woods and veneers, with simple, well-proportioned designs intended to suit everyday living. These vintage IKEA designs differ greatly from much of the brand’s later flat-pack output and are now increasingly appreciated for their quality, character and understated style.

Today, vintage IKEA furniture from the mid to late 20th century is gaining renewed interest among collectors and design enthusiasts, valued for its honest design, practicality and connection to the broader Scandinavian modern movement.
