A beautifully crafted mid-century teak sideboard, designed and produced by A.H. McIntosh of Kirkcaldy – one of Britain’s most respected makers of the era. This sought-after Harris model showcases the clean lines and craftsmanship that made McIntosh such a celebrated name in mid-century design.
The sideboard features:
Three drawers to the right-hand side, the top one newly lined and fitted with dividers for cutlery.
Two louvered cupboard doors with striking horizontal slats and elegant brass handles, opening to reveal a fixed internal shelf – perfect for storing glassware, dining sets, or media items.
A beautifully balanced design set upon sturdy, sculptural legs that elevate the cabinet and add to its light, refined aesthetic.
Crafted in rich teak, the piece highlights the natural grain and warm tones characteristic of McIntosh furniture. The combination of functional storage and stylish detailing makes this sideboard a versatile addition – whether used in the dining room as a drinks cabinet, in the lounge as a media unit, or as a statement hallway piece.
In excellent vintage condition, sympathetically restored to bring out the depth and character of the wood.
McIntosh remains an iconic British furniture brand, renowned for its innovation, Scandinavian-inspired styling, and enduring quality. The Harris model is a fine example of their timeless craftsmanship and would make a standout addition to any mid-century inspired interior.
McIntosh
Specialising in teak and other premium woods, McIntosh embraced the Scandinavian-inspired design trends of the 1950s through the 1970s. Their pieces are instantly recognisable for their clean lines, tapered legs, minimalist proportions, and meticulous craftsmanship. Fine veneers, intricate joinery, and attention to detail ensured every piece was built to last, balancing beauty with functionality.
Among their most iconic creations are the Dunvegan sideboard, admired for its curved edges and stylish proportions, and their extending dining tables paired with curved-back chairs - designs that combined elegance with everyday practicality.
Today, McIntosh furniture is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its timeless aesthetic and enduring build quality. Genuine pieces often feature the company’s label or stamp, making them identifiable and desirable in the vintage market. While the brand no longer produces new furniture, its legacy lives on through its mid-century designs, which remain prized for both their historical significance and ability to complement modern interiors.
