Danish Teak Highboard by E. W. Bach for Sejling Skabe
This piece has found its new home, but plenty of other one-of-a-kind finds await you. Discover similar pieces.
An exceptional example of Danish Modern storage furniture, this beautifully crafted teak highboard was designed by E.W. Bach and manufactured by the highly regarded Sejling Skabe in the 1960s. Known for their craftsmanship and clean-lined cabinetry, Sejling Skabe pieces are now increasingly sought after for their quality, amazing proportions and relative rarity – and this model is one of their finest.
The highboard is defined by its sleek three-door sliding front, showcasing richly figured teak grain throughout, with a sculpted lower apron and splayed legs that elevate the piece and give it a light, architectural presence. Inside, the storage is exceptionally well thought out:
- Three sliding cupboard sections
- Height-adjustable and removable shelves, perfect for flexible storage
- Two internal drawers, both running smoothly
- A vintage cutlery drawer insert is included – unlikely to be original to the sideboard, but added at some point in its life and a lovely, useful addition.
The sliding doors move effortlessly along their tracks, and all drawers open cleanly as they should. This piece offers generous, practical storage while remaining beautifully understated – ideal for dining rooms, living spaces, or anywhere you want a statement piece that still feels timeless and functional.
This piece represents one of the most successful partnerships of the Danish Modern era. Bach was known for his refined, architectural approach to cabinetry, favouring clean lines, balanced proportions and functional layouts. Sejling Skabe’s reputation for precision craftsmanship and high-quality teak construction made them the perfect maker for his designs. Together, they produced a series of beautifully executed storage pieces. This highboard is a standout example of that collaboration – thoughtful in design, superbly built, and unmistakably Scandinavian.
Recently refinished and presented in excellent vintage condition, with only minor age-related marks as expected for a piece of its era.
A highly desirable and increasingly hard-to-find highboard that brings together Danish craftsmanship, design pedigree, and warm mid-century style – a truly special piece for any modern home.
Sejling Skabe
Active through the mid-20th century, the company specialised in highboards, sideboards, bookcases and modular storage systems crafted from beautifully figured teak and rosewood. Their work is instantly recognisable for its clean lines, thoughtful proportions and understated functionality - hallmarks of Danish Modern design.
Unlike the larger mass-market manufacturers of the era, Sejling Skabe produced in smaller quantities, placing an emphasis on quality over volume. Many of their pieces were designed in collaboration with respected Danish designers such as E.W. Bach, whose exacting approach to form and utility aligned perfectly with the company's ethos. Today, Sejling Skabe furniture is increasingly sought after for its craftsmanship, elegance and relative rarity, making it a favourite among collectors and lovers of true Scandinavian design.
