A striking industrial lamp by Dugdills, with a long articulated arm and a deep blue metal shade. The arm can be raised or lowered at the main joint, while the shade can be angled to direct light onto a desk, workbench or reading spot. Its white interior reflects the light, and a switch sits just above the shade.
The Dugdills name is cast into the mounting base. John Dugdill & Co. made adjustable lighting for workshops, factories and homes, and this lamp has the practical construction associated with early British industrial design.
The lamp has been rewired in our workshop with black flex and fitted with a new bulb holder and UK three-pin plug. It is mounted on a wooden base, so it can be used as a freestanding lamp while retaining its original wall mounting fitting.
The blue painted finish shows chips, scratches and areas of surface rust, with traces of green visible beneath in places. There is also wear to the white interior of the shade, particularly around the rim. These details are shown in the photographs.

Dugdills was an English lighting name associated with the adjustable lamps of John Dugdill & Co. Originally an electrical engineering firm, the company developed lighting that could be moved and positioned to suit the task at hand. Its lamps were used in workshops and factories, as well as at desks and in homes.
Wall mounted and desk models often featured metal shades, articulated arms and sturdy joints designed for frequent adjustment. Today, original Dugdills lamps are appreciated for their practical design, solid construction and visible connection to Britain’s industrial past.
