Vintage industrial machine lamp by Invisaflex, British-made, probably 1950s-60s based on the construction and fitting types. Multi-jointed articulating arm- each joint uses riveted disc mechanisms that still hold position under the weight of the shade and arm. Conical metal shade with enamel finish in grey-green, interior painted cream.
Heavy cast metal base originally designed for machine mounting. Currently fitted to a solid oak butcher block base (approximately 21cm x 16cm) with green felt underneath to protect surfaces. The lamp can be removed from this base and wall-mounted using the original bolt holes if preferred.
The paint shows extensive wear – flaking, chips, and bare metal showing through in places, particularly on the shade and arm joints. This is original factory finish aged through decades of workshop use. All joints move freely and hold position. The shade interior has some rust spotting around the rim edge.
Invisaflex manufactured industrial and workshop lighting in Britain during the mid-20th century. Their articulating machine lamps were designed for precision engineering workshops where directional task lighting was essential.
This lamp has been professionally rewired for modern use, featuring a new bulb holder, twisted black cord and a standard UK 3-pin plug – ready for safe and stylish use in any contemporary space. Takes standard ES (E27) bulb, not included.
A highly collectible example of authentic British industrial design – ideal for desks, studios, or interiors with character.

Invisaflex manufactured heavy-duty industrial task lamps throughout the mid-20th century, designed primarily for factory and workshop environments where robust, adjustable lighting was essential. These British-made machine lamps feature cast iron construction with distinctive multi-jointed articulated arms that allowed precise positioning over workbenches and machinery.
The engineering is straightforward and built to last: tension springs at each joint maintain the lamp's position under its own weight, while the knuckle joints provide smooth movement across multiple axes. The conical shades, typically finished in a speckled enamel coating, were designed to direct concentrated light exactly where needed. Over decades of use, the original factory finish has developed an authentic industrial patina – surface rust, worn paint, and metal oxidation that speaks to genuine workshop heritage rather than artificial distressing.
What makes Invisaflex lamps particularly collectible is their transition from purely functional industrial equipment to sought-after vintage lighting. The same qualities that made them indispensable in post-war British factories - solid metal construction, reliable spring mechanisms, and practical articulation - now make them ideal for industrial-style interiors, home offices, and workspaces where authentic vintage pieces are valued.
These lamps were never designed to be decorative. They were working tools, and that utilitarian honesty is exactly what makes them work so well in contemporary settings. The weight, the mechanical feel of the joints, the purposeful shade design - it's all function, which ironically makes them more visually interesting than lamps designed purely for aesthetics.
Most surviving examples show their working history through wear patterns, paint loss, and surface corrosion. This isn't damage - it's authentication of age and use. Rewiring is typically necessary for UK safety compliance, but the mechanical components rarely need more than basic cleaning and occasional tension adjustment.
